The PHOTO Volume 6 (Issues 71-84)

    Regular price $150.00

Volume 6 of The Photo, the Marshall Cavendish partwork published in the early 1980s, brought together issues 71 to 84 in a single hardback binder, continuing the series’ blend of hands-on photography instruction and visual inspiration. Produced in the pre-digital era, it offered detailed tutorials on composition, lighting, and subject-specific techniques alongside practical darkroom and film-handling advice, all supported by richly illustrated photo galleries that showcased both professional and amateur work. The volume maintained the series’ structured, encyclopaedia-like format, making it both a practical resource for developing photographic skills and an attractive collectible that preserved the creative and technical spirit of early-1980s film photography.

The Photo was a weekly (later bi-weekly) collectible magazine that combined practical photography instruction with inspirational images, aimed at amateur and hobbyist photographers. Each issue came as part of a binder series so readers could build a complete reference guide over time. The content mixed step-by-step tutorials on camera settings, lighting, and composition with profiles of famous photographers, genre-specific advice (portrait, landscape, fashion, wildlife, etc.), and occasional gear reviews. It was heavily illustrated with high-quality photographs, both as technical examples and as creative inspiration. The tone was approachable but authoritative, designed to be both educational and visually engaging. By the end of its run, a full set of The Photo formed a comprehensive home photography course, reflecting the pre-digital era’s emphasis on film techniques, darkroom skills, and creative experimentation.

This issue is part of Kieran Madden's Book Collection that Tomorrow Publications will be showcasing for the next three months.
